What role for social change in the built environment? Towards sufficiency and frugality

November 16, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm EET

18:30 – 19:30 (EET)

Success in decreasing green house gases emissions will require a real turn to less carbon-intensive or sufficient / frugal lifestyles. A turn that requires a real societal transition to different behaviors and imaginaries around energy consumption. For the building sector, this means acting on demand and targeting buildings designers and owners, policy makers and buildings users and managers.

Following up on the work of the GABC 2022 General Assembly Social Change Workshop Sessions, the conference aims at gathering interests around the topic: “Towards Social Change: Sufficiency and Frugality in the Built Environment”. The conference will present benefit of collaborative work on a societal transition acting on demand and targeting buildings users and managers, buildings designers and owners, and policy makers. What role for social innovation? What levers (apart from energy techniques) can be used to act on the demand for energy, materials and space linked to buildings and reduce the ecological pressure? While satisfying decent needs for all, in a fair and equitable way, and preserving freedoms? Towards a culture of frugality in architecture and planning in the 21st century?
