Currently, less than 1 percent of buildings worldwide are net zero carbon, according to the World Green Building Council. But why does that matter? It’s reported by the WBGC that the building and construction sector is responsible for 30 percent of global energy consumption and the associated emissions, so without a major greening of real estate the 2050 net zero targets of the Paris Agreement are seriously at risk.
