Renewable Energy Solutions for the Built Environment
November 8 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EET
18:00 – 19:00 (EET)
There is an emerging gap between total energy efficiency spending and the rapidly growing total investment in building construction and renovations. This implies a slow-down in the rate of energy efficiency investment as a share of total investment in buildings. If a clean, efficient and resilient building/construction sector is to be achieved, energy efficient investments in buildings must therefore be prioritised. Renewable energy technologies present possible solutions: whether it is through community aggregation which enable the purchase of bulk renewable electricity at cheaper prices, subsidy-based programs for solar and green roof installations (retrofitting), etc. The role of renewable energy in supporting energy efficient objectives in buildings cannot be overemphasised. This event will highlight use cases of renewables-supported efficiency buildings, particularly in cities, while also discussing the roles of government in scaling up these interventions. It will also demystify financial implication and myths of green retrofitting by discussing investment strategies.
