From energy security to heating our homes – scaling up green buildings to boost resilience against the energy crisis
November 9 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EET
18:00 – 19:00 (EET)
The energy crisis has sent shockwaves through the world. Rising energy prices are hitting consumers, and businesses and public actors are faced with sharply rising energy bills. At the same time, the energy demand from buildings is rising likewise. The buildings and construction sector is booming to build homes, schools and health infrastructures. The sector is a major contributor to the global economy with USD 5 trillion annual investments and 7% of employment. Energy-efficient and climate resilient buildings are needed more than ever to alleviate today’s crises. Promoting green buildings at scale can strengthen local economies, create jobs, provide resilient shelter and comfort, improve energy security and lower household costs. Shifting the buildings and construction sector to green requires strong national commitments, massive investments and capacity building. International cooperation on buildings is more vital than ever. The Programme for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (PEEB) is scaling-up to bring green buildings up to speed.
