Decarbonisation of the built environment

November 10, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am GMT

10:30 – 11:30 (EET)

Climate change and the race to zero presents the greatest ever challenge to the designers, architects and engineers of urban systems: the buildings and infrastructure that make up and support our cities. The urban climate transformation relies upon both the rapid deployment of innovative and integrated urban systems, and the deep engagement with urban communities to build a consensus for change. High priorities are the renewable electrification and resilience of transport and buildings, circular approach to material supply chains and the use of digital systems to optimise and scale solutions.

We must acknowledge the systemic connections between buildings, infrastructure and people if we are to imagine solutions that garner broad support. We must also build the governance for both public procurement and private investment to better embed high ambition into all our projects. System change at the speed demanded by science and technology requires us to think creatively, bring our best and most innovative engineering capability to the table and bring communities and businesses on the journey towards decarbonizing our built environment.
